We use the term “scaredy cat” to describe someone who is afraid, and it reinforces the idea that cats are naturally fearful. But they’re not. If you have a cat who is always hiding, something’s wrong. Some cats don’t even want to walk across the middle of a room; they slink around the sides, uneasy visitors in their own homes. If that’s the case with yours, and if there’s nothing wrong with him medically that would cause him to want to keep to himself, there are steps you can take to make him feel more secure.
