Hopefully, we’re closing in on the end of a very long, very cold winter that impacted all of us in one way or another. Watching the snow accumulate outside, I find it comforting to know my pets are inside, safe and warm, and I pray for those less fortunate animals (and people) who are not as lucky as we are.
That said, I can’t wait for Spring! I especially love that first day when you can fling open all the windows (hopefully, giving the storm windows their much-needed respite until later in the year) and enjoy the warmer temperatures and the fresh air wafting through the winter-stale rooms.
It’s fun to coax your garden back to life, thinking of the new things to plant or enjoying that clean smell of fresh-cut grass. Personally, I am looking forward to giving my steps a fresh coat of paint and washing my windows.
Like me, many homeowners also enjoy making a list of home projects — both inside and outside — and I hope that the safety and welfare of your family’s pets appear high on the list. It can be easy to overlook the needs of your low-maintenance cat when expensive remodeling projects are on the table.
But an ounce of prevention is always worth a pound of cure, so we strongly encourage you to make a plan beforehand to keep the four-legged ones safe. Your best bet is to have one room clearly marked, and locked up tight, for the times when a home remodeling project is necessary.
